About Newcomers

Newcomers is a national organization for women.

Newcomers in Canada was started in Calgary in the 1960's by a group of bankers' wives who were frequently transferred and found it challenging to make friends in a new community.

The National Newcomers Council of Canada was formed in May 1978 to provide an up-to-date register of member clubs and to facilitate the exchange of ideas between clubs.

The White Rock and South Surrey (WRSS) Newcomers Club was founded in 1993 and has held regular meetings since.

Our club:

  • welcomes new members in the spirit of friendship

  • organizes a variety of social activities and events each month

  • is open to women only (although spouses and friends are welcome at certain events)

  • is non-profit

Our members are from across Canada, and indeed, all over the world. While many of our activities take place during the day, there are some evening and weekend activities and events to enable those who work during the day an opportunity to participate. Our Executive Committee and activity conveners are all volunteers.
